hi friends! I made a tinyletter (you can read the first one here) if you want weekly or maybe biweekly fic recs on Fridays. also if you read good stuff outside of 1d fandom pls rec me that too! (I'm gonna put an Arthur/Eames fic that meghan recommended to me in my next letter as the non-1D rec.) I also am gonna try not to include a ton of stuff by people who are already within our social group but I did rec some DW stuff, partly bc I think it would be fun to also include WIPs or fic outlines/sketches in the rec list.

ok intherubble is the author who got me hooked on 1d fic back in 2012. i think this is one of the first 1d fics i ever read and includes what is still one of my favorite bits of any fic ever:

"The next night Niall decides to try crawling into Zayn’s bunk... and is promptly shoved back out onto the floor. He rubs his arse and walks it off easily enough though.

He has better luck the next week when Danielle comes to the show and Liam takes her out afterwards. Zayn is taciturn all night and doesn’t protest more than 'How the fuck do you know what taciturn means?' when Niall straddles him on the couch, goes for his trouser fly.

i feel like i constantly rec this fic, but it's my favorite lirry dynamic where harry's a weird ass sex pest and liam is flustered and embarrassed (but turned on) by it. whatever, this one's a classic.

have you read any of olavidalo's fic? if you haven't, i honestly think you'd love it. they left the fandom ages ago (and abandoned so many wips, RIP) but my god, i could go and on about their writing. i think i've reread every scrap multiple times. they are so economical with their words, but somehow manage to do so much world building?? also i know you like darkfic, and some of their stuff is so deliciously dark, my fucking god. this excerpt from 'places we've grown' is a perfect example:

"zayn keeps lube and condoms in his bedside drawer -- harry wonders if old danny boy knows this -- and a fist in his mouth as harry fucks into him.

he's a generous kisser, matches the pace harry sets, and is courteous enough to wait a full six minutes after they've both come before bursting into tears."

there is SO MUCH TO UNPACK IN THOSE TWO SENTENCES ALONE, CHRIST. okay anyway, the fic i actually linked you to is an epistolary fic where zayn and harry are rival musicians with a harry characterization that you will love. just, if you do read any of their fic, please some yell to me about it!!

honestly? the best non-1d fic i've read. it's a les mis high school au with the most perfectly executed fake dating plot ever. its 185k and i've read it 3 times i think. it's the slowest of slow burns, and it doesn't even matter if you have no idea who any of the characters are (because i sure didn't), it just sucks you in. ALSO the author makes a point of making the characters diverse, it's wonderful.

SO MANY GOOD THINGS TO READ I CANNOT WAIT. i just added them all to my queue of fics to read. i especially am pumped about olavidalo, who i have not read even though i think you've mentioned them before, to me or in tags on a post or something.

also this line is among my favorite things i've ever read:

i don't really understand tinyletter yet??? but i love the idea of a recurring reclist! i still venture into the general 1d ao3 tags and read stuff just cuz it sounds good so i'll send em your way if anything pings. this week i've been in the mermaid!harry tag and this one was very sweet with just the hint of angst. i have no idea how to do links in comments whoops anyway.

i have read...many fics since this comment, but this is probably?? the first one that'll stick with me for a bit because it was different! h/l 100+k, h is a rock star and l is his groupie (but FEELINGS!) but most of the fic is set when they meet again in their 60s and form like...an older people friendship that just quietly builds back into a romance.
